Winding Down After Work Playlist
Relaxation is the name of the game. Throw off those SharpHeels and decompress with our “Winding Down After Work” Playlist. Pop that cork and put those feet up: you’ve earned it.
1. Tycho – “Awake”
The title track from California producer Tycho’s latest release soothes with peaceful downtempo grooves, if a glass of wine alone just isn’t going to cut it at the end of a long project. No vocal chatter to interrupt decompression.
2. Hurray For the Riff Raff – “End of the Line”
Alynda Lee, ramblin’ woman who cut a stretch from the Bronx to everybody’s beloved NOLA, leads her up-and-coming indie folk band. Banjo, fiddle, stand-up bass—are you sold yet? “I was thinking about you that night,” she croons.
3. Thievery Corporation – “Décollage“
Thievery Corporation spins traditional Brazilian bossa nova rhythms with French vox on their latest release, Saudade. The Washington D.C. act is sure to add plenty of atmosphere to your first evening cocktail.
4. Curtis Harding – “Freedom”
Atlanta transplant Curtis Harding has smooth moves and a whole lot of attitude. “Freedom” delivers on every promise made on this year’s Soul Power. Harding’s falsetto is reminiscent of soul king Marvin Gaye—with a pleasing modern swing.
5. Young & Sick – “Heartache Fetish”
LA-based producer Nick Van Hofwegen wraps sleek vocals with pulsing electro currents. More accessible than much of the electronica on the market, Hofwegen’s self-titled release is the perfect antidote to a rough day at the office.
6. Golden Retriever – “Flight Song”
Portland duo Golden Retriever recorded Seer in their home over the last two years. That work culminated in 40 minutes of celestial electronica that is made-to-be-listened-to on the back porch under the stars. Also check out “Archipelago.”
7. Carolina Chocolate Drops – “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!)”
To pull you from your introspective lull, I give you this Blu Cantrell cover by string band Carolina Chocolate Drops. Rhiannon Giddens makes this 2001 hit her own with furious violin work and emphatic vocals.
