The Winter International Arts Festival Brings European Musical and Artistic Culture to the Sochi Olympics
Sochi will be filled with a vast amount of visitors over the next few weeks. Not only will the XXII Olympic Winter Games begin, but an important Russian cultural event is about to take place as well.
In it’s seventh year, Sochi’s Winter International Arts Festival is a major event on European arts calendars. Award winning performers will be amongst the crowds of people excited to see what this year has to offer. For jazz lovers, Brian Lynch, a Grammy Award winner and Musician of the Year, will perform, and twelve hours of opera films featuring famous performers and conductors from the past century will play.
Lynch released his latest album in December. His performance February 15 is surely an act to attend. And for the inspiring musician, he will be hosting an all-ages clinic the following day.
With the festival highly focused on youth and education, a TV program will be broadcasted with the goal of teaching people about music. Renowned Polish composer, Krzysztof Penderecki, will premiere an exciting new piece. The Guardian has called Penderecki Poland’s greatest living composer.
A particular target this year will be showcasing Italian music, as well as introducing listeners to unknown and forgotten Italian music history. Great attention will also be paid to young musicians, making sure to include them, highlight their musical education and enhance their prestige.
Beginning February 6th and running through the 20th, the event promises something for everyone. When paired with the Olympics, Sochi will be boasting with creativity and inspiration. February’s focal points will surely unite people across the globe.
