The Best Colors to Wear, and What to Avoid While Doing Your Make-Up for the Office
Your routine of make-up for the office, should be a little different than your daily make-up routine. I love make-up just as much as the next girl, but I would never show up to the office in a full out smoky eye and bold lips. Those are the kinds of make-up trends that you save for a night out on the town, or date night. The best little spurts of advice that I try to keep in my mind are “keep it simple”, “a little bit goes a long way” and “stay polished.
Keep It Simple.
Neutral tones for your eyeshadow is the best option for work appropriate make-up. You should stray away from the frosted/baked looking colors and stick to either matte or slightly shimmering neutrals. Lorac or Urban Decay eye palettes have colors that blend perfectly together. They are easy to work with, versatile, and can easily be transformed into a darker smoky look when you leave the office. There are many eye shadow palettes that give you a how-to when you buy them, but if your eye shadow palette does not…wear a light nude color all over your eye lid, and then blend a darker brown on to the crease of your eye. It is best to follow the shape of your eyes, because every one differs. Just remember to keep it simple, and not over do it with the darker colors.

A Little Bit Goes a Long Way.
When doing your eye make-up, do not go crazy with the amount of mascara you apply and dark eye liner. You don’t want to end up with clumpy eyelashes, so just 2-3 coats of mascara will last you through the day. Benefit has many mascaras that are designed to give you fuller lashes. There is no need to wear false eyelashes to work, so just avoid the falsies altogether. Keep your eyeliner fairly simple. Make an itsy-bitsy line of black eye liner…or even better, you can dip an angled eyeshadow brush into some water and then apply a dark colored eyeshadow as your liner. The turn out is less harsh than black eye liner, and flows with the tones of your eyeshadow. Try to avoid putting eyeliner on your lower lashes. It smears and can irritate your eyes very easily. Another tip is to not try to carry your eyeshadow all the way up to your eyebrows. This is not only a hard look to pull-off, it is also a hard look to master. You don’t want to look like a comic book character, so keep your make-up looking minimal.

Stay Polished.
Neutral tones can be easy to smudge away or even sometimes fade by the end of the day, depending on the eyeshadow brand. To keep this from happening, simply put on an eyeshadow primer before you apply eyeshadow. This will greatly benefit you if you use eyeshadow as an eyeliner as well. It can also help the eyeshadows blend easier on your eye lid. A blending brush is easy to use and will make a darker color in the crease of your eye look less harsh. Another harsh thing to avoid is too much bronzer or blush. You just want a light color swept over the apples of your cheeks. A color that looks like a mixture of bronzer and blush is a perfect shade for everyday use. Smashbox or Nars are a great brands for picking out your blushes. Finally, to polish off your look a neutral pink colored lip gloss or cream is an essential to keep in your work tote. Picking a pink for your skin tone can be very tricky, so try to pick a sheer color shades darker than the color of your bare lips.
