House of Cards, Karen O and Bling are Just Some of the Entertainment Industry’s Most Romantic Offerings for a Last Minute Date
Valentines Day. Like all holidays, sometimes it just sneaks up on you. You spend two weeks reminding yourself to plan something, buy something, reserve something. Then, the next thing you know it’s the morning of and you spend half your workday scrambling to make a last minute evening plan that doesn’t feel half-assed.
Whether your in this position or not, you can’t go wrong with these recommendations.
The Soundtrack: “The Moon Song” EP
Yeah Yeah Yeah’s front woman, Karen O received an Oscar nomination for her beautiful songwriting in Spike Jonze’s Her. The title track, which appears twice in the movie (sung by Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson and later by Ms. O during the end credits), is now available on a three-song EP. The latest track – and my personal favorite – is a duet between O and Ezra Koenig, Vampire Weekend’s frontman. The EP is under $3 on iTunes. Best described as dreamy, it’s sure to set the perfect Valentines atmosphere.
The Series: House of Cards, Season 2
Yes the Netflix series returned at midnight this morning. All 13 episodes are streamable right now. So, while the Underwood’s represent a grittier side of love, countless couples (and non-couples alike) are canceling dinner reservations and calling in takeout in preparation of the political corruption drama binge. And Robin Wright, looking fierce, as usual. It’s free for all subscribers, but please wait until after work to start watching.
